THE EGG DONOR PROCESS

{ 01 }

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

After passing the pre-screening and submitting your final application, our Donor Intake Coordinator will contact you to discuss our program. We will ask you to provide about 10 photos for your profile ranging from early on to current. Most of the pictures should be recent and show your best self. Intended Parents are usually looking for a donor who looks like you can fit into their family but some are looking for other criteria in addition to physical characteristics.

{ 02 }

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOSOCIAL EVALUATION

During this step you will meet with a Mental Health Provider (MHP) several times to discuss the emotional, physical and social impact of egg donation and your commitment to the process. The intended parents are very appreciative of your donation and this selfless act, and count on you to be honest and trustworthy. During your meeting with the MHP, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire which is also called a personality inventory. Don’t worry, just be yourself and be truthful.

{ 03 }

MATCHING WITH PARENTS

Your application, pictures and personality information will be provided to prospective intended parent(s). (No identifying information is included.) When the intended parents choose you as a match, you will be contacted with the details. You may decide to meet the parents you’ve matched with in person, just through email, or you can choose to have no contact at all. This decision will be mutually agreed upon and will become part of your legal agreement.

{ 04 }

LEGAL DOCUMENTATION

You will meet with an attorney who specializes in assisted reproductive technology law to review your egg donor agreement. All questions you have regarding your donation from a legal standpoint will be answered by your attorney. They are not intimidating and are very easy to talk with when you need them. You will likely have a meeting to go over the document and if need be, can address more questions as they arise in the future..

{ 05 }

MEDICAL TESTING AND PHYSICIAN CONSULTATION

The first time you meet with the physician at the fertility clinic, you will have lab testing done as well as a pelvic ultrasound (not painful) to view your ovaries and uterus. The staff will be looking for normal results on your lab work including infectious disease, hormone and drug testing among other genetic screening. The results will be reported to you when they are finalized. The hopeful parents will be told when your labs are back and if normal, when you can start the medication for the donation.

THE EGG DONATION PROCESS

You will give yourself several injectable medications throughout your donation process, usually over a two week period. The egg retrieval process itself takes about 10 minutes, during which you will be sedated. After the procedure you will be sleepy for a few hours and should rest for the remainder of the day. Post care instructions will be given to you, and as always, your PLS Egg Donor Coordinator will be checking in with you throughout the donation process.
